YMJJ 3-day retreat with Zen Master Jok Um (Ken Kessel) August 28-30

Please consider joining us at Bo Hyun Sa Temple in Southwest Ranches for this wonderful practice opportunity. The schedule consists of Zen practice (bowing, chanting, sitting, and walking), work and rest periods, and a vegetarian meal eaten in traditional temple style. It also includes virtual kong-an teaching interviews with Zen Master Jok Um (Ken Kessel).

Prior meditation experience or attendance at our free newcomer orientation/meditation instruction class (offered three times weekly on Tuesday nights, Wednesday nights, and Saturday mornings) is recommended but not required.

Zen Master Jok Um (Ken Kessel) received transmission in April 2017. He began studying with Zen Master Seung Sahn in 1975. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and psychotherapist, currenlty in private practice, and has worked with children and families as a mental health consultant in Head Start and other preschools,  foster care, substance abuse, outpatient and inpatient mental health and therapeutic preschool settings, as well as in private practice. He specializes in infant and early childhood mental health. He is guiding teacher for New Haven Zen Center, Ten Directions Zen Community in Chicago, Hwa Um Sa-Orlando Zen Center, and Cypress Tree Zen Group (Tallahassee). He also teaches at the Chogye International Zen Center of New York, as well as at other Zen Centers and affiliates.

The retreat begins at 7:00 am Friday and ends at 10:00 am Sunday followed by a precepts ceremony at 10:30 am.
